Canal Zone August 1920 2c Fernandez de Cordoba (#47, F-VF) tied by Cristobal, 10-6-1920, machine cancel on unsuccessful non-stop flight to Kingston, Jamaica enroute to Florida (AAMS Canal Zone flight #2 - 726 pieces carried). Special circular Cristobal transit duplex with 3-line inscription was applied on the front and a boxed 6-line, "AVIATOR ENCOUNTERED / IMPOSSIBLE WEATHER / CONDITIONS NEARING / JAMAICA, COMPELLING / RETURN. MAIL RE-DIS- / PATCHED BY STEAMER" handstamp was added. Neat cover with Masonic corner card. Type III Mt Hope local CANAL ZONE overprint on Panama #198. Very Scarce & Undervalued franking (only 56 covers recorded!) on Attractive & Interesting Unsuccessful Pioneer First Flight to U.S. from the Canal Zone. Ex-Salz.
