Product Description
Canal Zone February 1929 2c Carmine Canal Zone Seal with Air Mail overprint (Scott #UC2/UPSS #A5) entire with 1927 3c Lincoln, perf 10 (#98), tied by ANCON, 2-14-1929 machine cancel to U.S. Horizontal blue and red bars and "VIA AIR MAIL" at left on #U9/10. CANAL ZONE overprint on US #584. Very Scarce and Early Steamer / Airplane service. This cover was likely carried by Steamship from Canal Zone to New Orleans and then by Airmail to Boston. The 5c per oz rate for this service was initiated on Aug. 1, 1928, and lasted until July 5, 1932. Cover was somewhat roughly opened at top, slightly affecting the indicia but is still quite Attractive and an Important Early Airmail Postal History from the Canal Zone to the US.
